Golf

I played 18 holes of golf today on the UBC golf course. It was absolutely beautiful and so much fun to finally play a course with some elevation changes, a drastic change from the flat courses in Florida. The group was Myia, Barry (Myia's father), me, and a random single who turned out to be a pretty nice guy. None of us have played much in the last year and it certainly showed, but it was still a blast. Here are some pictures from the round:

HDTV and a tough session

So a few days ago I was watching game 6 of the NBA finals on the HDTV of the family I'm staying with. It was pretty blurry and I was confused because it wasn't what I expected out of HDTV. After some investigation I realized they didn't have the correct cable to utilize the high definition aspect and were instead watching basic cable quality tv. Thus I got them all fixed up and the difference is quite noticable. When I'm able to get a house, a nice high definition television will be at the top of my list. It makes you feel like you're right there on the field, court, or in the front row for Conan O'Brien. I would highly recommend everyone get it.

I played a session on Friday night after dinner with the family. It started out as the worst session I've played all summer besides the limit nightmare. I played two hands as horribly as humanly possible and lost the maximum on each when I should have easily lost the minimum. I don't feel like going through the hands as they are obvious mistakes that make me want to puke everytime I think about them. So after three hours I was stuck $500 and nearing my cutoff of $600 in a night. The comeback began when I made quads with AJ and had a guy put me all in by the river with me only having to call.

From there I played a hand the epitomizes how bad some of the poker players in these 1/2 NL games can be. I have KcJ in the small blind with six limpers and see a flop of Ac Qc 2c and one player bets $12 and I call the bet. The turn is a blank and we both check, and the river is the 10c. Praying that he has the Jc, I bet $40 and to my surprise he raises me to $100, leaving himself $140 behind. I push and he instantly calls me with the Ah Jc. I think my opponent played this hand horribly in two spots. First, after making a nice bet on the flop, he doesn't follow through with a nice pot size bet on the turn, and second, finds a way to put $240 into the pot on the river with me when I'd only put that much money in on that board with the nut hand.

In the end, with $600 invested in the game, I finished my six hour session with $1030 in front of me, which is the most I've ever had in front of me in any cash game. It felt pretty cool having five stacks of 40 red chips each, forming a huge wall in front of me. While I'm not happy with the way I began the session and that I tilted slightly after playing the second hand so horribly, I am proud that I was able to keep my composure and book a solid win.
